Microbiology department consists of three units: Immunology Unit, Bacteriology Unit and Parasitology Unit.

To be internationally recognized for academic excellence through in-depth research and quality of teaching, and to impact positively to its immediate community through effective prevention and control of virus related diseases of human and animals. The teaching and training component services undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and postgraduate medical science students specializing in basic and medical virology.
The department aims to be nationally recognized as a provider of analytical research and training services, the quality of which is well defined by the quality assurance program adopted by the central laboratory. The department seeks to strengthen research in environmental and health sciences to ensure human safety. It provides advanced analytical services to academic and industrial sectors as well as conducting training courses in advanced extraction and analytical techniques to improve human resources in Sudan.
The department is committed to achieving research excellence by investigating solution real problems utilizing areas of modern biochemistry, it is equipped with advanced technology especially in the area of protein analysis and proteomics, it is included in many research projects held in the central laboratory and provides a training centers for under and post graduate students.
Environmental Chemistry is a diverse and highly interdisciplinary field that focuses on the chemical processes influencing the composition of natural systems, it provides advanced instruments to ensure high quality research and training in the areas that address urban concerns which have impacts on both environmental and human health.
Is to maintain, service and develop the instrument and equipments and other lab facilities to ensure the lab environment will support the research and service goals of the central laboratory.
The department aim to develop and produce diagnostic kits which aid in diagnosis or detection of diseases, measure the progress or recovery from a disease or confirm that an individual is free.
This unit is the first one in Sudan and it will be the leader for this kind of production.
